Your Neighbourhood Bistro
Where it all began
Burnt Truffle was the second restaurant we opened and the first one we crowdfunded.
We knew we wanted to open another neighbourhood bistro, and we found this beautiful Grade 2 listed sandstone building in Heswall on the Wirral peninsular. Only the banks were making the funding impossible and our offers fell though multiple times. So we turned to crowdfunding.
We launched our first crowdfunding campaign through Kickstarter, and with the backing of our Twitter following we raised over £100,000. Come see the names on our wall from our backers… and maybe spot your own?
Burnt Truffle (name decided by Twitter) opened in 2015, and was the first UK restaurant to be opened with the initial finance raised through non equity funding. How about that!
Our menus
Burnt attracted a great deal of interest when we opened. The Guardian’s Jay Rayner was particularly enthusiastic in his review “a kitchen that can do no wrong”, and Lisa Markwell of The Independent wrote “Burnt Truffle is an accomplished project but more than that it’s a loved project”.
We’re proud to be one of few restaurant on the Wirral with a 2AA Rosette rating.
We serve uncomplicated, unpretentious, delicious food by a team who love what they do and want to make every dining experience feel special. Our seasonal menu features comforting bistro dishes as well as Elite Bistro classic like our Crème Brûlée. Our Kids menu has a lot more than just fish fingers on it too.
Not only that but our set menu available at lunch and early evening is the best value you can find on the Wirral. Three courses for £25? Incredible.
Plus our Sunday roast dinners are worth travelling for. In our opinion the best roast has:
- The best quality meat from UK butchers
- Rich, dark & thick gravy (dreamy)
- Yorkshire puds that could double as a work of art (champion)
… which funnily enough is exactly what we do!
Dog friendly terrace
We love seeing the whole family out dining with us, especially any furry four-legged family members. In fact our location is perfect for a long walk along the coast and then heading inland up through Dungeon Wood and then back down through the Heswall Dales to Heswall for a bite to eat (Sunday roast at our place?). Check out the Visit Wirral website for some inspiration.
Groups with dogs are welcome to dine with us on our heated outdoor terrace. We might even have a few treats for them if they’re well-behaved!
Special events
We host a monthly Wine Night with a special 5 course menu plus bread and snacks. We order in the wines especially and serve a wine flight that will perfectly match the dishes. Check our menus to see when our next one is.
We also open our terrace for drinks all day in the summer, so you’re welcome to hang around before or after your meal and soak up some rays.
